Arco del Sol

Senderos, Tamarindo, Costa Rica

A curved-roof residence above Tamarindo whose rooflines and lava-stone infinity pool mirror the arc of the bay below, with a fully solar-panelled roof and a plan oriented for passive cross-ventilation.

Set high on the slopes of Senderos above Tamarindo, Arco del Sol draws its formal language directly from the coastline — the scallop of the bay where the Pacific meets the shore, and the arc the sun traces across the sky. The building's sweeping rooflines curve in plan to mirror these shapes, while an ark-shaped infinity pool edged in lava stone extends the gesture outward, its vanishing edge aligning with the bay below. The entire roof is clad in solar panels to generate the home's energy, and the plan is oriented to capture the prevailing breeze for passive cross-ventilation.

Four levels unfold around the view. Arrival is through a gallery lined with bleached teak fins and capped by a skylight, the ocean framed at the far end like a painting. The living level opens completely to the pool terrace — kitchen, dining, and lounge flowing into one another and spilling out to the Pacific horizon. Throughout the perimeter, deep planters bring cascading tropical greenery to every facade, softening the boundary between architecture and landscape and drawing the outside in at every turn. Bleached teak ceilings and custom furniture carry the relaxed sophistication of the coast through every room, from the master suites to the lower-level family room and games space.
