Residential
Guanacaste, Costa Rica
A symmetrically planned residence on a west-facing Pacific ridge, with a central five-metre living hall flanked by bedroom wings, a horizon pool aligned to the ocean, and a covered terrace with fully operable glazing that converts to an open-air cinema.
Sunset Ridge sits on a ridge with a perfect west orientation — a site that looks directly out over the Pacific and the islands beyond. The plan is symmetrically arranged around a central arrival and social hall that rises to five metres, from which the bedroom wings radiate outward in a composed, balanced gesture. Arrival is through a shallow entry pool that mirrors the horizon-edge swimming pool on the opposite side of the house, so the journey through the home begins and ends with water aligned to the view.
A deep, covered outdoor terrace connects to a series of large sliding panels that open the living space entirely to the outdoors — transforming the terrace into an open-air cinema at night. A green roof covers the garage and utility volumes below, anchoring the house to the hillside and letting it read as a single, grounded form as it steps up to the upper roof levels. Wide overhanging eaves and tapered wood ceilings give the roofline a slender, elegant silhouette against the sky. Interiors are homogeneous and refined — a carefully edited palette of textures and stones that bring warmth and quiet elegance to each space. Wood ceilings and ceiling fans run throughout.
